WHAT IS THE PDO BEAUTY THREAD LIFT? The PDO beauty thread lift was developed several years ago in the far East, particularly South Korea, and is still very popular with those of Oriental origin as it lifts and tightens the facial features, but without the “pillow face” or bloating effect that can distort natural features. The threads used in this beauty thread lift are polydioxanone (PDO) and this is the same substance found in dissolvable sutures used in cardiac surgery. You can be assured that using these threads is safe and effective, as there are many years of data in clinical trials on polydioxanone. The threads are introduced into the skin with a fine needle in a similar manner to having a dermal filler treatment. Patients at our Clinic who have done the PDO thread lift procedure, report that it is not uncomfortable. Instead of leaving behind a dermal filler, we leave behind a small thread that lifts and rejuvenates.
The Mini Thread Lift A safe, convenient alternative to traditional facelift surgery or noninvasive facial tightening with radio frequency, ultrasound or laser.
FAQ'S: How long does the PDO thread lift take? Typically a PDO beauty thread lift will take between 30-60 minutes, depending on the number of areas to be treated in the session. A small area can be treated with 4-8 threads, whereas a large area or full face lift may require 40-50 threads. Does the PDO thread lift hurt? Most patients at our thread lift clinic state that the treatment is less painful than a dermal filler treatment. We can carry out the treatment using local anaesthetic for anxious patients. What results can I expect from a PDO thread lift? You will see an immediate effect in the tightening of the treated area and results start to improve after 10-14 days as the synthesis of collagen is initiated in the healing cascade in the skin. Results can be seen for up to 2 years. Are there any side effects from the PDO thread lift? After treatment, bruising and swelling are typical and these effects subside after a few days. The threads are black and can sometimes be visible in the skin for up to 2 days. This is normal. The threads turn white within a few days. Also, threads may be palpable in the skin and this also subsides within a few days.
As we age, the collagen and elastic structure supporting our face weakens and causes natural sagging around cheeks, eyebrows, jaw and neck areas. The Mini Thread Lift is a safe, convenient alternative to traditional facelift surgery or non-invasive facial tightening with radio frequency, ultrasound or laser. Designed to be minimally invasive, it reduces sagging around the cheeks, jaw line and neck more quickly and with less risk than the conventional approach. During a Mini Thread Lift, our doctor will insert a thin, hollow needle containing polydioxanone (PDO) suture thread into the dermis at the prescribed facial area. The suture loop is fixed to the deep fascia of the forehead and temporal area and the free end of the thread pulls the sagging skin up along the line of force. After the loop end of the thread is fixed to the target fascia, the needle is then withdrawn leaving the thread along the needle tract. Another set of threads is inserted in the same manner to the temporal fascia or scalp and multiple PDO threads are placed in a cross-hatching manner to achieve the desired e!ect. PDO threads have been safely used in vascular surgery for decades.
Am I the right age for a Mini Thread Lift? Most candidates suitable for a Mini Thread Lift are between 30 and 70 years old. However, the procedure can effectively enhance the appearance of people over 70, and some individuals opt for the procedure in their 20s and 30s, often as a means of correcting hereditary conditions or re-contouring of facial structure. In general, the condition of your skin and the features you would like to improve are more important considerations than your age. Ideally, patients should have skin that is still somewhat elastic and not too loose. Although there is no strict requirement on age, perhaps the most important concern is the realistic expectation about what a Mini Thread Lift can accomplish.
How long does it take to see the results? During the treatment, the treated areas will be tightened and slightly raised to reduce sagging and deep folds resulting in a younger, rejuvenated appearance. Guests usually remain fully conscious during the treatment giving you the chance to approve your new look while the doctor works on the specified areas. Treatment time is normally less than an hour, and immediately after the treatment there might be slight edema or swelling, redness and some bruising especially around the eyes. This will improve within a few days.
How long will the results last? Since the aging process is continuous, no lifting procedure produces permanent results. The PDO suture does not only tighten your skin but it also stimulates collagen synthesis along the suture line. The new collagen lasts much longer than the life of suture material which is normally 2 to 3 years. The longevity of your lift will depend on many factors including your skin condition, age, smoking and drinking habits, level of sun exposure and how you treat your skin.
What kind of post-procedural care is required? You will need to refrain from strenuous exercise and facial massage for at least 1 month after treatment. For optimum effect, we recommend RF skin tightening.
